Surajit Chanda is the VP, Technical at Hafnia looking after all the In-House managed product tankers. He started his sea going career after completing his Marine Engineering training in 1985, joining his 1st ship in January 1986. After sailing for 16 years, most of which on tankers, he came ashore in 2001 as Technical Supt. He was promoted in 2006 to Fleet Manager and finally to Vice President in 2019. He joined his present company, which was then called Worldwide in 1995, then renamed BW in 2005, and presently works for Hafnia which is the product tanker arm, completing 28 years in the same company.
Surajit takes a keen interest in crew training and welfare, involving himself in crew conferences and new recruitment regions. He firmly believes that a ship is only as good as the crew onboard, so keeping the crew morale high, taking care of their mental and physical wellness is of utmost importance.
