Work Experience:
Nikolaos Thomopoulos is a seasoned diplomat and accomplished professional with extensive experience in international economic and commercial affairs. Currently serving as the Head of the Greek Trade Office in New York, Nikolaos brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of international trade dynamics to his role.
Prior to his assignment in New York, he served as the Head of the Greek Trade Office in Zagreb, Croatia, from 2020 to 2021, where he successfully navigated the complexities of the Croatian market. His previous posting as the Head of the Greek Trade Office in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 2018 to 2020, showcased his adeptness in the Middle Eastern trade landscape.
Nikolaos’s extensive diplomatic career also includes a significant role at the Directorate for International Economic Organizations in Athens, Greece, from 2016 to 2018. In this capacity, he contributed to shaping Greece’s international economic relationships.
His earlier assignments have taken him to various countries, where he held prominent positions, including The Hague, Netherlands, and the role of Greek Representative & Deputy Executive Director to the Common Fund for Commodities from 2011 to 2016. His contributions extended to key regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and the trade offices of Northern Greece.
His career commenced with notable roles in the Greek Trade Office in Sofia, Bulgaria, and Nicosia, Cyprus, where he served as Vice Commissioner from 2004 to 2008 and 2000 to 2004, respectively. These experiences provided him with unique insights into trade relations within Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean.
Beginning his journey at the General Secretariat for Economic and Commercial Relations in Athens from 1997 to 2000, he laid the foundation for an illustrious career dedicated to fostering international trade partnerships.
Nikolaos began his career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) at the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Greece (SOEL) in Athens, Greece, where he served from 1988 to 1995.
Education and Training:
Nikolaos Thomopoulos completed his Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 1982 to 1986. Between 1995 -1996, he pursued a Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies (Master’s degree) in the History of the Byzantine and post-Byzantine world at Université de Paris I, Panthéon, Sorbonne. Simultaneously, in 1995, he embarked on a journey at the National School of Public Administration, specializing in the Department of Economic & Commercial Affairs, where he developed a keen understanding of economics and commerce.
