Capt(N) Étienne Landry joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1987. As a Naval Officer, he served aboard several warships and at naval schools across Canada and in Europe. He successively commanded Her Majesty’s Canadian Ships (HMCS) Goose Bay and HMCS Shawinigan until 2005, sailing with Canada’s Atlantic Fleet to the Arctic, Northern Europe, the United States and the Caribbean. He also served as Commanding Officer of the naval unit HMCS Montcalm in Quebec City. As an instructor for the Lower St-Lawrence Pilot Corporation for 12 years, he contributed to the training Canadian and International pilots, facilitated their professional development, and assisted in multiple operational feasibility studies at the Maritime Simulation and Expertise Centre.
He returned to the Royal Canadian Navy in early 2020 as Deputy Commander of the Naval Reserve, contributing to force generation efforts, recruiting and training naval personnel in support of the fleet, as well as helping Canadians throughout this past pandemic.
Retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces after 35 years of service, Capt(N) Landry joined the Laurentian Pilotage Authority as a Marine Security Consultant in 2022, working in Innovation and Simulation furthering the maritime industry capabilities in pilotage waters. He is currently participating in the development of a vessel transit optimization application for use in the complex pilotage waters of the St-Laurent River
