Clemens Toepfer started his shipping carrier at Hamburg-Süd in Germany. Later on he went to work for Cargill in the US and Oldendorff Carriers in Singapore. In 1999 at the age of 30 he joined his fathers ship broking company Toepfer Transport in Hamburg. Today Toepfer Transport is one of the largest S&P Brokers in Hamburg with a particular focus on the Container, MPP/Heavylift and shortsea markets. The company has joint venture offices in Shanghai and Singapore and has an active research department.
