Podcast Summary

Mr. James Cirenza, Managing Director, Investment Banking Division at the DNB Carnegie, providing an update on the U.S. Capital Markets.
September 24, 2026

Bond yields in the U.S., U.K., France, and Japan have moved sharply higher, reaching levels not seen since the recovery from the dot-com bubble. As the cost of capital rises, companies face higher refinancing costs, more expensive funding for CapEx, and potentially lower valuations.

Shipping, however, remains an area of strong activity within the capital markets.

While overall issuance and capital-raising activity has been more subdued than expected, shipping activity remains strong, with significant volumes of paper continuing to come to market. At the same time, substantial corporate and government bond issuance is competing for investor capital.
